He retired undefeated, having won 15 major world championships ranging from super featherweight to light middleweight. This includes five Ring magazine titles and the lineal championship in four weight classes (two at welterweight). In addition, he won a bronze medal in the featherweight event at the 1996 Olympics, three US Golden Gloves championships (at light flyweight, flyweight, and featherweight), and the US National featherweight championship as an amateur.
