After claiming that George Floyd died on fentanyl, the 45-year-old rapper offended Floyd’s family, who have filed a lawsuit against him for “defamation of the dead.”
The family’s attorney posted on Lee Merritt’s Twitter page: “While one cannot defame the dead, the family of #GeorgeFloyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death.”
“Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight,” continued the attorney. Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, knelt on Floyd’s neck for nine and a half minutes in May 2020, killing him. The police officer was found guilty of second-degree murder.
The artist and businessman, who had his name changed to Ye, spoke on a recent edition of the podcast “Drink Champs” and spoke about a number of subjects, including the passing of George Floyd.
“I watched the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens put out. One of the things that his two roommates said was they want a tall guy like me, and the day that he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes,” said West. “They hit him with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that.”
