Terrence Howard was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 11, 1969, to biracial parents Tyrone and Anita Howard. Terrence’s ancestry is African and English, and his great-grandmother was the famous actress Minnie Gentry. Terrence had a challenging childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, where he suffered physical abuse from his father, who was later convicted of manslaughter and served an 11-month jail sentence. Terrence’s parents divorced after his father’s release, and his great-grandmother raised him until she died in 1993 at 77. Terrence began his studies in chemical engineering at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, but after two years, he dropped out to pursue acting. Terrence has been married a total of five times to three different partners. In 1994, Lori McCommas and Terrence Howard got married. Two daughters and a son were born to them. After divorcing in 2003, the couple remarried in 2005. They divorced once more in 2007, though. Michelle Ghent, his second wife, and Howard were married in 2010. In February 2011, Ghent filed for divorce. In December 2011, Ghent asked for a restraining order, alleging that Howard had assaulted her physically. Their divorce was finally finalized in May 2013.
