ABBA Marks The 50th Anniversary Of Their Eurovision Success With “Waterloo”

Legendary British singing group, ABBA, released a new statement today, April 6, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their victory in the Eurovision Song Contest.

After competing in the competition final at the Brighton Dome, the Swedish superstars Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad won Eurovision 50 years ago today. For the contest’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2005, the song was selected as the greatest song in Eurovision history.

A brief piano composition named the “Piano Moment,” which Andersson recorded to commemorate the event, will be heard as though he were performing live at the competition. On the anniversary, the piano piece will be played hourly in London, Berlin, Warsaw, and Stockholm thanks to many simultaneous renditions. The piano will be situated in London’s Waterloo Station in England.

To commemorate the occasion, the band has also published a 50th anniversary reissue of their classic album “Waterloo.” The band released huge successes like “Dancing Queen,” “Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie!” and “Lay All Your Love On Me” after winning the Eurovision contest.

“ABBA Voyage,” a virtual production that ABBA developed in 2022, with a 10-piece live band (formed with the assistance of James Righton of the Klaxons) performing alongside a “digital” version of ABBA (also known as “ABBAtars”). The Swedish titans are also apparently planning to take their famed ‘Voyage’ hologram show to Las Vegas for millions of euros.
