Premiering their sizzling new single “Burns” via AFROPUNK, Me:You (comprised of LaToya Kent & RA Washington of the acclaimed Cleveland ensemble Mourning [A] BLKstar) is set to release their debut album, Field Tapes In Der Trash, on April 21, 2023, through American Dreams.
Described by Afropunk as a track where “LaToya’s voice floats above the waves of distorted 808s and tape noises, creating an atmosphere that’s tense and driving while still feeling human and achingly real,” the single has received praise from various sources. The album, Field Tapes In Der Trash, is infused with punk spirit and realization, blending genres and offering an enigmatic yet quietly insistent sound.
The duo’s collaboration resulted in a unique mix of tapes, strings, synths, and kits, giving the music a hazy, woozy, hot, rhythmic, and gritty feel. The album’s tracks range from punk and R&B-infused songs to those with jazz accents, featuring Kent’s bold and evocative lyrics.
Discussing the new single, Kent and Washington said, “A whisper in the air to coax into a dream with eyes open. ‘I got a little magic in my pocket’ to ingest and enter a portal that takes the lovers into invincibility and tandem solidarity. Posing an instruction and guide to another world.”
Field Tapes In Der Trash invites listeners to live in its space, tracking its changes and walking to its groove. It is available for pre-order from American Dreams and will be released on April 21, 2023.
