Billboard Music Awards ’23: Selena Gomez Acknowledges Rema While Receiving Her Award For “Calm Down”

Rema’s song “Calm Down” has reached yet another significant milestone as it continues to blow up all over the world. The “Top Afrobeat Song” and “Top Afrobeat Artist” are two categories that The Billboard Music Awards recently introduced to honor and celebrate Afrobeats, as the genre continues to undergo enormous transition and recognition at worldwide awards.

The remix to the hit song “Calm Down,” a collaboration between Selena Gomez and Rema, bagged the award for the Top Afrobeats Song at the recently concluded 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, November 19. The actress-singer praised the Nigerian singer in her award speech.

Selena thanked the Rave Lorde for making it all happen and having chosen her to grace the global hit. She also thanked the fans doing the diligent streaming work. On his part, Remy boy also had a few things to say regarding the win.

He first thanked Selena Gomez and the record labels he’s signed under: Don Jazzy’s Mavin and D’Prince’s Jonzing World. He also gave props to Billboard for the special recognition.

The hit single peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2023. The song was on the charts for a total of 57 weeks! It also happens to be Remy boy’s first Hot 100 entry, and the “Only Murders in the Building” actress’ ninth top ten single.
