Forest Claudette’s Lush New EP: ‘Everything Was Green’

Today marks a significant milestone in the career of alt-R&B artist Forest Claudette (They/He). The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has unveiled their latest EP, ‘Everything Was Green,’ a mesmerizing blend of soul, hip-hop, and pop that showcases their musical versatility and creative prowess.

The 6-track EP features three new songs alongside previous hits “Motor in the Sand,” “Mess Around,” and “Two Years.” Each track is a vivid portrayal of Claudette’s world, where emotions and thoughts are brought to life through their evocative lyrics and soulful melodies.

One of the standout tracks, “Violence,” is a poignant commentary on police brutality, delivered through a mellow acoustic arrangement. The accompanying black-and-white music video, featuring Claudette performing in front of a stoic family, adds a layer of depth to the song’s narrative.

“Everything Was Green is a reflection of the most impactful moments in my life over the past two years,” Claudette shares. “Green represents everything I’ve known, everything that is safe and familiar.” This familiarity was disrupted when they moved to Los Angeles in 2022, a journey that led to self-discovery and personal growth, themes that resonate throughout the EP.

Claudette further explains that the songs are not arranged chronologically but instead map a cycle of thoughts and life experiences since 2019. These themes include heartbreak, freedom, excess, gratitude, awareness, and systemic injustice.

To commemorate the release of ‘Everything Was Green,’ Claudette will perform new songs from the EP at Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 17th. The performance promises live instrumentation, emotional depth, and an exquisite range.

‘Everything Was Green’ follows Claudette’s 2022 debut EP, ‘The Year of February,’ which featured acclaimed singles like “Creaming Soda” and “Hologram.” Born in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria, Australia, Claudette’s journey has been marked by a constant evolution of their craft, influenced by songwriters such as SZA and Moses Sumney.
