Breach Of Contract: Amaju Pinnick Sues Davido Over Failure To Meet Contract Agreement

The long-running conflict between Afrobeat sensation Davido and former NFF president Amaju Pinnick has taken a new turn as the football executive has filed a massive lawsuit against the maestro musician for alleged contract violations. The yearly “Warri Again Concert” organizers, Brownhill Investments Company Limited, have filed an N2.3 billion lawsuit against David Adeleke, better known by his stage name, Davido, alleging a breach of contract.

The petition, designated EHC/183/2023, was filed before the Delta State High Court in Effurun by Brownhill Investments Company Limited, which Mr. Amaju Pinnick oversees. The claimant requests an N2 billion general restitution order against Davido and his record company, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, through its attorney, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem. The claimant pleads with the court to slam Davido with N150 million in legal and professional expenses and an extra N30 million to cover the cost of bringing the lawsuit. Additionally, it requests that the singer “make a public apology to the claimant and attendees…”

According to the claimant’s statement, in early 2023, Davido and Pinnick met at Abuja Airport, and he requested to perform at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’ on October 6, 2023. Pinnick initially hesitated, but a N70 million fee was eventually agreed upon for his performance. On April 6, 2023, an equivalent of N70m ($94,500.00) was paid, and the defendant acknowledged receipt and even created a promotional video for the event. However, on D-day, Davido didn’t show up despite a private jet being chartered for him, which incurred an additional $18,000 in expenses. Although the private jet was kept on standby at Lagos Airport, attempts to reach Davido and his team were unsuccessful.

Davido, in his defence, had stated earlier that his unavailability wasn’t sudden, as he had already communicated to the organizers that he wouldn’t be able to honour the agreement as dates clashed with his New Zealand gig. The organizers, aware of his unavailability, still promoted the show using his name, and there was nothing he could do, especially as he was away from the country. Netizens have, however, shared their reactions to these unfolding events involving Davido and debt call-outs. Recently.
