Burna Boy Responds To Harsh Criticism From African Americans Following Recent Statement

Burna Boy, an afrobeats musician, has responded to the criticism he received for his recent statement regarding the ancestry of black Americans. The African giant, who recently performed at the renowned NBA All-Star Halftime Show in Utah and has been confirmed as the headlining act for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul on June 10, 2023, irked some African Americans with a recent remark about how important it is for them to return from the diaspora.

In the interview mentioned above, Burna Boy was questioned about why he thought black Americans needed to travel to Africa. Burna Boy responded that it would help them understand their identities and how to function better. However, the interview offended the racial group as they took to social media to criticize Burna Boy. In addition, Tariq Nasheed, a social commentator who once argued with Nigerian performers like Ycee about how African immigration affected black Americans in the United States, also took notice of the interview.

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Burna Boy clarified his initial statement on Instagram, stating that he did not mean to imply that African-Americans are not Americans or do not deserve what they desire from America, but rather that they have Africa, who loves them, and that the only way to win the world is for black people everywhere to come together.
