Burna Boy’s Incredible Afro-fusion Sound Heats Up The 2024 Grammys Stage

GRAMMY-winning Afrobeats musician Burna Boy offered a taste of his own country to Crypto.com Arena for Music’s Biggest Night.

The Nigerian Afro-fusion star, adorned in intricate embroidery, performed amidst a multitude of entertainers and vibrant structures. His nominated songs, “On Form,” “City Boys,” and “Sitting On Top Of The World,” the latter of which featured a special appearance by Brandy and 21 Savage, were all incorporated in the exuberant performance.

His hit song “City Boys” only had a brief spell of fame until Brandy’s amazing vocals proved why her 1998 song “Top of the World” was a perfect fit for Burna Boy’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World” sample. The group did a great job delivering the revised version, even including a guest verse from 21 Savage.

Burna Boy entered the 2024 Grammy Awards with four nominations: Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World”), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone”), and Best Global Music Album (I Told Them…).

One of the three new categories this year, the powerhouse was also nominated for Best African Music Performance (“City Boys”). With his 2020 album Twice as Tall, Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album award previously, becoming the first male Nigerian musician to win for an original work.
