Chike Claims His Entire Discography And Forthcoming Album Do Not Fall Under “Afrobeats”

Renowned Nigerian musician, Chike, has made it clear that the Afrobeats genre does not apply to any of his three albums, old and forthcoming.

Chike publicly said that his next album, Son of Chike, and the previous ones including, The Brother’s Keeper, and Boo of the Booless, are all not Afrobeat records. In order to understand what he means, he also advised listeners to listen to all of his albums once more.

His declaration follows Wizkid’s string of Instagram Story posts which asserted that he wasn’t an Afrobeat musician. Later on, he made it clear that he sings in all musical styles and cannot be put into a box. Chike unveiled the official music video for the popular song “Egwu,” which featured the late vocalist Mohbad.

The vibrant graphics primarily display pictures of Mohbad in the course of the film. By skillfully incorporating his pictures into the music video, Chike paid tribute to the late street pop singer. Just one day after its debut, “Egwu” surpassed one million views.

With the strategically positioned image of Mohbad staring down at the city while his music spreads happiness across it, the video also gives viewers a rush of emotions. Chike continues to get fans ready for the debut of his third album with “Egwu,” which follows the release of his 2023 single “Ego Oyibo.”
