Davido’s Controversial Omission: Don Jazzy Excluded from the ‘OGs’ of Nigerian Music

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, well known by his stage name Davido, shocked the music scene when he failed to include renowned producer and music executive Don Jazzy in his list of Nigeria’s musical legends. Given Don Jazzy’s substantial contributions to the Nigerian music scene, the absence surprised many people.

However, Davido recognized D’banj, a former teammate of Don Jazzy at Mo’hit Records, as one of the “Original Gangsters” (OGs) of Nigerian music. On a recent episode of the Bootleg Kev podcast, Davido made the intriguing discovery as a guest.

When asked to list the innovators of modern Nigerian music, Davido gave a sentimental response. He identified the dynamic twin duo P-Square, 2Face, and D’banj as the three original pioneers of the Nigerian music business. D’banj was remembered with affection as a key figure throughout his formative years.

The sector was shaped by these industry veterans, according to Davido, who said, “They were the people that made this thing possible.” However, his conspicuous absence of Don Jazzy from this esteemed list has sparked heated controversy among music lovers and professionals alike.
