Nigerian Entertainers Celebrate Olamide On Becoming The First Nigerian Rapper To Get A Grammy Nomination

Nigerian veteran rapper, Olamide, the CEO of YBNL, is now the first and only Nigerian rapper to be nominated for a Grammy Award. Celebrities have reacted to this news on social media.

Olamide’s joint single, “Amapiano,” with Asake has earned him more global recognition and a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammys. The Recording Academy, which announced the whole list of nominees prior to the 66th Grammy Awards, which will take place in February 2024, also verified his nomination.

Other Nigerian celebs have also been showing Baddo some love. A fellow rapper, Reminisce, showed support for Olamide by quoting the post made by the Recording Academy confirming Baddo’s candidacy for the esteemed prize, and leaving a heart emoji.

This is a momentous occasion for both musicians, demonstrating their influence on the world stage and musical ability. “Amapiano’s” popularity soared, topping charts and turning into a cultural hymn throughout Africa, not only in Nigeria. In addition to being nominated at the 2024 Grammys, Asake has had a crazy award run this year.

Among the many honors that Asake has bagged for himself in 2023 alone include Male MVP at the Soundcity MVP Awards and Best African Artist of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
