DJ Karaba Drops “Le Sud en Été”, Announces ‘Souvenirs’ EP

Congolese-Canadian DJ Karaba shares new single and announces 'Souvenirs' EP out 8/11

Today, Montreal-based French DJ and producer Karaba announces her new EP Souvenirs is slated for release on August 11th. Alongside the news arrives the first offering from the forthcoming project, the intoxicating new single “Le Sud En Été”, which translates to “The South In The Summer”. The track is self-produced and features an Afrobeat jazz production that lays the ideal foundation for Laurène Pierre-Magnani’s smooth and lush vocals. Taking hold as she waxes poetic on childhood memories and Summers of years past.

Speaking on the new single, Karaba shares, “This one was the very first track that inspired my project. I was going through a tough time when I started working on this track. It was back in 2022, and I felt like I needed to get back to my childhood memories and make a song about how beautiful that time of my life was. I started with the rhythm and then went into melody and all the rest. It was actually a quick process. Then I thought of someone to sing the lyrics on top of it, and Laurène came into my mind. I’ve never talked to her before, and to be quite honest, I never thought she would have even answered, but she did, so I was going f*n crazy, haha!”

The new Souvenirs EP, a follow-up to last year’s debut EP Délivrance, finds Karaba ushering in the Summer through a nostalgic-tipped lens that defies genre. Spanning across influences of jazz, soul, reggae, afrobeat, and more, Karaba designs soundscapes that are vibrant and deeply entrenched in her Congolese roots. Bridging together her love for movement with a multicultural sonic palette.
