Childish Gambino (or actor Donald Glover) can be seen grinning while posing the question, “You ever kill anyone?” to a bystander. A building explodes as a woman leaves the scene, and a voice can be heard asking, “Do I look like I have?” In another scene, Gambino tells his presumed wife, “This marriage is starting on a great footnote,” in a conversation. The two are seen fleeing from something in another scene.

This is a sequel to the same-titled 2005 film, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married assassins sent on a mission to kill each other. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Glover were formally welcomed to the cast in February 2021. Contrary to initial reports that claimed she would co-star opposite Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge left the project in September 2021 due to “creative differences.” Erskine joined the series in April 2022.

In addition, recurring roles for Parker Posey, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Michaela Coel have been added to the cast. As the show’s co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer, Francesca Sloane, who has worked with Gambino on FX’s Atlanta for a long time, has joined the project. In November 2022, Mr & Mrs Smith will debut on Amazon Prime.
