Drake And Nicki Minaj Rock Stage For First Live Performance Of ‘Needle’
During a recent live show, Nicki Minaj surprised her fans in Toronto by bringing out the famous rapper Drake as a surprise guest and performing the live debut of their collaborative track ‘Needle’ on April 30th. The moment was part of her ongoing world tour, celebrating the release of her album ‘Pink Friday 2’. While performing at the Scotiabank Arena, Nicki paused midway through the set and told the audience she had a special guest. She introduced Drake as the “king of Toronto” and an “icon” and “legend.”. The crowd erupted in cheers as Drake took to the stage, and the two performed the first-ever live rendition of ‘Needle’ together in front of his hometown audience.
The song was featured on Minaj’s recent album, ‘Pink Friday 2’. Following its debut, it peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the charts for four weeks, becoming one of the album’s biggest tracks. After performing ‘Needle’ together, Drake delivered a solo performance of his 2023 track ‘Rich Baby Daddy’ while Nicki went backstage for a wardrobe change. Before leaving the stage, Drake left the crowd with a parting message: “I love you. You know what time it is—you know what I have to do,” which seemed to make a nod to his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar.
Around the same time as Drake’s appearance at Nicki Minaj’s headline show, Kendrick Lamar released a six-minute diss track titled ‘Euphoria’ against Drake. In the track, Lamar called Drake a “master manipulator” and questioned his abilities as a father, among other accusations. This sparked a dialogue between the two rappers, which shows their passion and commitment to the music they create. As for Nicki Minaj, the rapper continued her world tour by returning to her hometown for a Barclays Center show in Brooklyn. She is set to wrap up the US leg of the dates with shows in Oklahoma, Houston, Dallas, and Austin over the next few days before heading across the pond for a run of European and UK tour dates.
