Jack Harlow Names Kanye, Drake, OutKast & More Among Top 5 Favorite Rap Albums In Podcast

In a rare interview, Elliott Wilson and B.Dot sat down with Jack Harlow, the most recent guest on the Rap Radar show. The rapper Jackman, who just released his third album, speaks candidly about the album’s focus and his opinion of the current state of hip hop. It’s not necessarily good or bad, but rather “weird” and “interesting,” according to him. In addition, he discusses his friendship with Drake, his praise from Kendrick Lamar, his claim to be the hardest white rapper after Eminem, MGK’s criticism of him, and other topics. Jack released the music video for Jackman’s song “Gang Gang Gang” on Wednesday.

When asked which hip-hop albums he liked the most, Jack named records by Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake, Outkast, and the Chicago duo The Cool Kids, comprised of Sir Michael Rocks and Chuck Inglish. His response was undoubtedly interesting.

Harlow said at the 48-minute mark,

“What people want is changing, what the youth wants is changing, and it’s almost like Drake, Kendrick, and Cole, their voices are damn near nostalgic at this point. We know this is good ’cause this is from the days when things were a little better.”

He continued,

“You hear Drake’s voice come on in the club and it almost reminds you of 2012, which was a great time. It reminds you of 2016, which was a great time. It’s almost like the history of the big three continues to reign on because what they’ve already accomplished is like…well we know we’re getting some good shit from them, and it’s why you see people go back and instead of banging new shit they’re listening to Forest Hills Drive, or they’re listening to Late Registration. It’s almost if we’re living in a time where people feel like this era isn’t special enough to stamp anything as timeless or classic as if the time of classic shit. It already happened.”

While Harlow acknowledged that he was still unsure how to express his opinions on the condition of rap, he added that Drake’s double-disc album from last year would probably be considered a “classic” in the future. Harlow said,

“I guess what I’m saying is, I think Scorpion is gonna be a classic,”“I think these albums as time passes, it’s just how it is.”

Harlow recently released Jackman, the follow-up to his 2022 album Come Home the Kids Miss You, which was released at the end of April. The second album by Harlow arrived at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
