Jay-Z Slams Grammys For Never Awarding Beyoncé “Album Of The Year” Despite Her Record Wins

Jay-Z won the coveted Global Impact Award at the 66th Grammy Awards but didn’t let the opportunity pass without making fun of the Recording Academy. He voiced his dissatisfaction that his wife, Beyoncé, who holds the record for the most Grammy wins (32), never received Album of the Year during his acceptance speech. He asked the Academy to reevaluate its standards and ensure worthy performers like Beyoncé are honoured for their contributions. During his remarks, Jay-Z noted the unfortunate reality that Beyoncé had no nominations for any prizes at the 2024 ceremony. He criticized the Grammy nominations with his daughter Blue Ivy at his side and insisted that the Recording Academy “get it right.” Jay-Z also expressed his disappointment, highlighting the need for more diversity and inclusivity within the recording academy. He called for a fair and unbiased evaluation process that recognizes the immense talent and cultural impact of artists like Beyoncé.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of The Year; so even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammys, never won Album of The Year, that doesn’t work.”

“In 1998, I was nominated for Best Rap Album and DMX had dropped two albums that year, they both were number one. He wasn’t nominated at all. I’m just saying, we want y’all to get it right – at least get it close to right.”

“Some of you are gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category. When I get nervous, I tell the truth. But outside of that, you gotta keep showing up.”
