Mayorkun Discusses The Creative Process Behind His Latest EP, “Love For Free”

Nigerian singer, Mayorkun, talked about his relationship status, the creation of his new EP, “Love for Free,” his relationship with Davido, and his sound during an interview with Reality TV Star Tacha on Cool FM’s Big Friday show.

When asked about his inspiration behind his hit song, “Lowkey!,” the Afrobeats star disclosed that he was going through a tough phase when he penned the song, which also applied to most tracks on the new project. Everyone was curious as to where the musician had gone on a five-month hiatus and why, prior to the release of his most recent EP, he had not released any new songs.

During the conversation, Mayorkun clarified that he had been traveling and that he did not think it was appropriate to release new music while away from his native nation. Additionally, he underlined the significance of media rounds and doing them. The singer  also acknowledged his breakup with UK dancer Cocainna, though he maintains their relationship is still cordial.

Formerly signed to DMW (Davido Music Worldwide), Mayorkun commended Davido for being a real ally who makes sure his artists are paid fairly. Apart from the release of his latest EP, Mayorkun was featured on “Son of the Soil,” a new EP from UK singer, Not3s. Mayor also got tapped for a track off “Soundcheck,” a new album by native Nigerian rapper, Zoro.
