Michael Jackson Rises To The Top Of Forbes’ List Of Highest-Paid Deceased Celebrities

Michael Jackson, the late legendary American singer-songwriter, and dancer, has been announced to have earned an estimated $115 million, crowing the late King of Pop the highest-paid deceased celebrity. This was revealed in the Forbes 2023 annual list of the highest-paid celebrities who have passed away, which was released on Tuesday.

And according to Forbes’ yearly compilation of the highest-paid departed celebs, thirteen deceased musicians, novelists, and other A-list celebrities raked in a whopping $470 million in the past year, a 70% dip from the astonishing $1.6 billion they earned in 2022.

Part of the reason for a sharp drop is the decline in nine-figure music catalog sales, which drove the exorbitant incomes of deceased performers. The majority of the most well-known dead celebrities from last year acquired their intellectual property.

For the first time in four years, Michael Jackson, whose estimated net worth is pegged at $115 million, is back at the top. His late father-in-law, Elvis Presley, came in at number two. Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Peanuts, and Dr. Seuss, who comes in at number four and fifth, respectively, complete out the top five.

In addition to estate acquisitions done or announced within the same period, this year’s Dead Celebrity ranking takes into account pretax earnings from sales, streams, licensing agreements, and other sources between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023.
