Nigerian Artists Take The Lead As Spotify Unveils The Top Afrobeats, Rap, And R&B Tracks of 2023

The greatest Afrobeats songs of 2023 were listed on Spotify, and Nigerian artists occupied three of the top five slots on the published list.

As expected, Davido’s “Unavailable” from his blockbuster album, “Timeless,” claimed the first position. Asake’s “Basquiat,” off his sophomore LP, “Work of Art,” occupied the third position on the chart, while Omah Lay’s “Soso” from his massive 2022 debut album, “Boy Alone,” secured the fourth position.

According to Spotify, Wizkid also had a position among the top 10 R&B songs of 2023. The singer’s single, “2 Sugar,” featuring Mavin’s Ayra Starr, off his latest album, “More Love Less Ego,” peaked at number seven on the chart. In addition, Tyla’s “Water,” which came in at number two, was the highest-ranked African song on the chart.

While on the Hip-Hop scene, “Declan Rice” by Odumodublvck peaked at number two on Spotify’s list of the Best Global Hip Hop Songs of 2023. On this chart, Odumo’s hit happens to be the song by a Nigerian rapper with the highest ranking. This goes to show just how far hip-hop has progressed in Africa.

Additionally, Spotify celebrated the exponential rise of Afrobeats recorded in 2023 by hosting its annual Wrapped Party at The Palms in Lekki, Lagos, this past Saturday, December 9. Davido, Adekunle Gold, Gyakie, YKB, Qing Madi, Morravey, and other artists performed at the event.
