Billboard, a highly reputable media outlet, recently published its year-end list for 2023, focusing on the US Afrobeats song chart. The list features the top Afrobeats artists and songs famous throughout the year, regardless of their release date in the given range. The Billboard year-end music summaries collect data from weekly charts between November 19, 2022, and October 21, 2023, for every artist, title, label, and music contributor. The rankings reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales, or streaming during the weeks the titles were featured on a corresponding chart during the tracking year for Luminate-based recaps. The purpose of these rankings is to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of artists and contributors who have significantly impacted the music industry.
According to Billboard, Burna Boy was the highest-ranked Afrobeats artist of 2023. Burna Boy, who previously finished second, rose to the top of Billboard’s 2023 year-end U.S. Afrobeats Artists list. The global superstar topped the weekly U.S. Afrobeat tracks chart that ranks the top 50 Afrobeats tracks using a system that combines U.S. sales and streaming activity. He secured the top spot with 26 leading entries throughout the 2023 chart year (November 19, 2022–October 21, 2023). Davido also had a stellar 2023; he also appeared on the list.
Other talented artists, such as Wizkid, Tems, and Libianca, also secured spots in the rankings despite not releasing an album or EP in 2023. Rema’s “Calm Down” topped the Billboard Top Afrobeats Songs chart, while Tems had the most positions with “Higher,” “Free Mind,” and “Essence.”
