Teyana Taylor has openly cited Janet Jackson as her greatest artistic inspiration ever since the start of her career. At the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, the Harlem singer-songwriter paid respect to the pop icon by sporting a look that was reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s 1995 MTV VMAs attire. Teyana seemed to have become something of a little sister to Janet.
When the mother of two announced she would be retiring from music in 2020, the “All For You” artist sent her some words of support. “Teyana, you have an undeniable gift from God,” wrote Jackson. “Don’t ever let that go. You bring something so special to the industry and you continue to have such an impact on this world. Never forget, a talent like yours is unstoppable. I luv you and know that I’m here for you always.”
As Teyana continued to tour for The Last Rose Petal 2…Farewell Tour, their relationship grew stronger over time. During the UK leg of the tour on Tuesday, Miss Jackson unexpectedly met the performer in London and gave her some encouraging words and priceless backstage moments.
Teyana posted about the memorable occasion to her 15.3 million Instagram fans, writing, “London had me in shambles & crying like a full blown baby! The love, the energy, the raw emotions, the vibes, THEE ICON JANET JACKSON!”
