– Today, WHOKILLEDXIX return with the raw, distortion-filled new single “ANXIETY.” Listen HERE via Masked Records/Warner Records. The Connecticut-bred duo, comprised of Karm The Tool and Yung Skayda, dig deep, leaving no emotional stone unturned on the high-energy track. It’s the kind of unfiltered, stream-of-consciousness punk energy that makes WHOKILLEDXIX one of 2022’s most welcome breakouts. The track arrives alongside a frenetic video, as well as news of the duo’s new album PULLBACK, out October 28.
The distorted soundscape swells as the song progresses, using a shredded guitar riff as the emotional bedrock for the duo’s frenzied, glitchy vocals. Dizzying and overwhelming, these sonic layers within “ANXIETY” mirror the conflicting complexity of the subject matter. “Sorry I’m repeating the anxiety I’m feeling,” they sing. “I’m a fighter, it’s just another day.” In the video, the duo don masks and offer a performance fitting of the track’s off-the-rails energy.
“ANXIETY” arrives just weeks after “ATTENTION!,” a rebellion against judgment centering around the simple proclamation: “I don’t want your attention.” Ironically, WHOKILLEDXIX are garnering plenty of it as 2022 goes on. An early teaser for the track garnered over 175K views before its release, demonstrating the powerful connection they’ve already forged with fans in the few years they’ve been issuing these soul-bearing tracks. The duo released their EP LORE, Vol. 1 in April, which follows in the footsteps of EPs Fall Damage (2021) and 19 (2020) — the latter of which is home to smash hits such as “spy?” and “Kismet.”
With “ANXIETY,” WHOKILLEDXIX confirm their status as genre-bending rulebreakers, who aren’t afraid of laying themselves bare and sharing their innermost fears and insecurities.
