Yemi Alade Delivers A Thrilling Performance At The AFCON 2023 Opening Ceremony

Yemi Alade, a renowned Afro-pop musician, entertained the crowd during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening ceremony. On Saturday, the Stade Olympique Alessane Ouattara in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, held its inauguration ceremony.

Alade sang “Akwaaba,” the official AFCON 2023 anthem, alongside Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan and the Ivorian band Magic System. The singer accessorised her hair with gold hairpieces that evoked the look of a Calabar bride, while wearing an outfit with a green Ankara print.

As Alade leaped onto the platform and celebrated in perfect harmony with Ramadan and Magic System, she was beaming with joy.

The competition is being held in Cote d’Ivoire for the first time since 1984. According to reports, there has been a lot of traffic in the city of Abidjan as fans of the different competing teams have started to swarm the site of the first Group A encounter between Guinea Bissau and the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire.

With the release of her hit song “Johnny” in 2014, Yemi Alade—who is regarded as one of the greatest female musicians in the nation and on the continent—gained considerable recognition in the music industry.

Alade, who is well-known for her versatility, sings in English, French, and Yoruba. Among her accomplishments are the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), which she won for Best Female in 2015 and 2016.
