Thomas Stanley Holland is an English actor whose accolades include a British Academy Film Award and three Saturn Awards. He has been called one of the most popular actors of his generation by several publications.
Holland began his career at age nine, enrolling in a dancing class, where he was noticed by a choreographer who arranged for him to audition for a role in Billy Elliot the Musical at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre. Holland secured a supporting part in 2008 after two years of training. It was upgraded to the title role that year. He played it until 2010.
He made his film debut in 2012 in the disaster drama The Impossible, in which he played a teenage tourist trapped in a tsunami. He received praise for his performance. He decided to pursue acting as a career, later appearing in How I Live Now in 2013. He played historical figures in the film In the Heart of the Sea in 2015 and the miniseries Wolf Hall in 2015.
He earned international prominence playing Spider-Man/Peter Parker in six Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero films. The first was Captain America: Civil War in 2016. In 2022, Holland starred in another action film role in Uncharted. He also played against-type roles in the crime dramas The Devil All the Time (2020) and Cherry (2021). In 2015, Holland directed the short film Tweet. He also had voiced roles in computer-animated features, including Onward in 2020.
