Album Art

Adekunle Gold &Quot;Tequila Ever After&Quot; Album Review, Yours Truly, Reviews, May 2, 2024

The album art features Tio Tequila in a serene pose amidst abundant greenery and natural scenery. In his Tio season, he’s moving towards a transition from being a Superstar to a Rock star. It captures the essence of Adekunle Gold’s evolution as an artist, symbolizing his journey towards a new musical direction. The serene pose amidst the lush greenery and natural scenery reflects his desire to embrace a more grounded and authentic persona as he transitions from the realm of a Superstar to that of a Rock star.

Tracks And Features

The album’s opener, “Chasing Peace Of Mind”, which had a snippet shared on social media by the superstar features Ami Faku and Habib Koite, is a beautifully well-crafted piece that blends melody with professional creativity and deep lyrics. Themes of Gratitude, Self-Love, and appreciation for one’s life journeys are prominent in almost every line of the songs, and the artistic versatility of the African stars is on display.

“Party No Dey Stop”, one of the album’s standout tracks, features the incredibly talented Zinoleesky and right from the day it was released as a single to date, the track continues to be a fan-favourite and why not! From the productions to the delivery and artistic complementation of both acts, the song, Party No Dey Stop, remains one of Adekunle’s best works.

“Soro,” “Tio Baby”, and “Ogranya” shows the new AG Baby side that fans should be expectant as the superstar makes his seamless transition to Rock Star Mode even with the inclusion of Afro-Carribean feel to his sound. He is in his “Just Flex” Mode as he continues to appreciate his rise, and there’s some bragging in the lyrics but why not? His creativity as an artist continues evolving, and he doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon. AG Baby for a reason. A remarkable song from the album “Ogaranya” came out with a lively music video directed by Director K in partnership with PriorGold Pictures. Along with other tracks on the album, the song displays Gold’s talent in crafting elaborate narratives with his lyrics, complemented by captivating melodies.

One of the raves of the moment, OdumoduBlvk, answer present on the track “Wrong Person.” And as expected of this track, it is pure fire. Adekunle has a word for his detractors, and it is only fitting that Ekelebe Stunner drops a verse on this bopping track. Adekunle says, “He’s gentle, but You’re messing with the Wrong person if you take him for granted.” With his smooth vocals and clever wordplay, OdumoduBlvk adds an electrifying energy to “Wrong Person.” The collaboration between Adekunle and Ekelebe Stunner further amplifies the message, showcasing their undeniable talent and solidifying their status in the music industry.

On “Sisi Ganja,” Adekunle is in “Loverboy Thug” mode and lays it bare while telling this significant other that he is in Love. On “Make It Easy,” the flavorful singer Coco Jones enters. Her verse is incredible, and her chorus melodies and vocal arrangement are masterfully composed. This song is perfect for couples to groove to because it has prominent themes of Love and relationships and subtly sexual undertones. The combination of Adekunle’s raw emotions and Coco Jones’ powerful vocals create a captivating dynamic that draws listeners in. “Make It Easy” showcases their undeniable chemistry and adds an extra layer of depth to the song’s overall message. With its catchy beats and sensual lyrics, this track will become a favourite among music enthusiasts looking for a sultry and romantic vibe.

“Look What You Made Me Do” features Mrs Kososko -Yeah, Simi. The duo combine to create another powerful Afropop ballad with sharp-edged lyrics, and there’s a depth in the lyrics as romance and surrender to Love are evident in the songs. This is another fire track on the album.

In “Omo Eko,” AG Baby pays tribute to his Lagos ancestry while delivering this track for the community. As he enthrals his listeners with superb vocals and a theme that strongly emphasizes self-contentment, AG rides the Amapiano wave from beginning to end. The fusion of AG Baby’s soulful voice with the infectious Amapiano beats creates an irresistible and uplifting atmosphere. Through “Omo Eko,” he celebrates his Lagos roots and invites everyone to embrace their heritage and find joy in being true to themselves.

Although “Come Back To Me” by Khalid and AG Baby is another excellent collaboration on the album, it falls short of many people’s expectations for the two vocal powerhouses. Maybe the music was the problem, not the vocals. The lyrics, which depict a lover who misses their ex, have themes of love loss and unrequited emotions, as well as relationships and their antics. The song’s production, however, lacks the same level of innovation and catchiness as some of their previous works. Despite this, Khalid and AG Baby’s vocal performances still shine through, showcasing their undeniable talent and chemistry. Overall, while “Come Back To Me” may not reach the same heights as anticipated, it still captures the essence of heartfelt emotions and showcases the artists’ vocal prowess.

Pharell Williams and Nile Rodgers are featured in “Falling Up,” another standout track on the album. This song gives afrobeats an EDM vibe, and AG Baby delivers. The chants in the background are pretty melodic and catchy. In his verse, Pharell preaches the importance of “not giving up,” the song’s energy makes it almost sound like a world cup anthem. The fusion of afrobeats and EDM in “Falling Up” showcases AG Baby’s versatility as an artist. The song’s infectious energy, combined with Pharell’s uplifting message, creates a powerful and motivational listening experience that resonates with listeners worldwide.

The album’s listening journey concludes with “All My Life,” what a rollercoaster ride of vocal aesthetics, fantastic vocalizations, and delivery. Adekunle performs a song for his lover in which he assures her that he still loves and always will. The song has a catchy chorus, and AG closes the album by reminding fans why they first fell in love with him. With heartfelt lyrics and a soulful melody, “All My Life” showcases Adekunle’s ability to captivate listeners with his emotional range. The track is a testament to his growth as an artist, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what he has in store for the future. As the final track on the album, it leaves a lasting impression and solidifies Adekunle Gold’s position as a true musical talent.
