Redveil &Quot;Playing W/ Fire&Quot; Ep Review, Yours Truly, Reviews, April 26, 2024

One of the top young artists endeavoring in the rap space now is Redveil. Even though he is only 19, he has significantly impacted a commendable gathering of music lovers. It should be mentioned that the Maryland native turned 19 on April 20. He has been releasing new songs in celebration of his birthday. For instance, he had also dropped songs like “Giftbag.” Additionally, he released “black enuff,” which includes JPEGMAFIA.

Everything up until this point has been leading up to the debut of his new EP, playing with Fire (playing w/Fire). This initiative has generated a lot of fan excitement, and it is simple to understand why. All of Redveil’s musical compositions are his own. Additionally, he creates for other people. This adaptability has helped him connect with followers. Not to add, his ambition for success as a budding artist undoubtedly helps. Playing w/Fire has been released and includes six songs, two of which have previously been released. This project doesn’t waste any time; it lasts a little over 15 minutes.

The EP Art of PwF sees Redveil donning a red tee with a black jacket on brown pants, lying on a sofa, and holding a light. He looks deep in thought, and the image says just that as it resembles something in a haze/blur, and Redveil seems to imply that this project is the contemplation of his thoughts as he tries to navigate through his last years of being a teenager.

Tracks And Features

JPEGMAFIA and Mekdelawit are the only artists featured on the six-track project, as can be observed from the tracklist. “f2g (fucks 2 give)” with Mekdelawit has a bit of an EDM vibe to it and talks about running out of just that. The independent act Redveil relies mainly on himself for the remainder of the project, which is understandable. Because he develops his work, he is an independent, more robust, and more adaptable artist.

The EP’s opening track, “Stuck,” talks about running it back in a triumphantly drumless manner, while “Giftbag” experiments with mixing pop rap with jazz rap and chipmunk soul while demanding motherfuckers to get off his dick and how they are hoes by switching things up on you. The song “Captain” lasts three minutes and a few seconds more and is the longest on this EP. Redveil generally likes to keep things brief and sweet, which is excellent. Additionally, this corresponds to current songwriting trends.

After his explosive appearance on “Kingdom Hearts Key” on one of this year’s most intriguing projects, “SCARING THE HOES” by JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown, it appears Redveil is prepared to launch himself into the spotlight. The former also appears on this song, “Black Enough,” which is truly outstanding and features a classic Peggy highlight. The final track on the EP is “Pwf.” The DMV musician, who received endorsements from Denzel Curry, JPEGMAFIA, and JID, is barred up throughout the six-song EP, particularly on the song’s title track, “pwf.”

EP Summary

Redveil provides a succinct and impressive EP highlighting his growth as a producer and rapper with talents that can easily compete with the greatest in the business. He can use “Playing w/ Fire” as a starting point to advance and create a fully realized LP that explores some of the more intriguing sounds and concepts experimented with. If he chooses that path, he might have his name associated with the same musicians he admires and looks up to.

However, this album has more than a braggadocious flex, like on his Learn 2 Swim. Instead, it deftly avoids those who would label him or claim ownership of his experiences, suffering, or creativity; the objective is freedom rather than brands, making it more universal and widespread.
