He was a student at elementary school when his parents got separated.

Rod and his mother struggled terribly to make ends meet. He would have to go to the streets to earn some money, involving himself in robbery and drug dealing. He also got arrested twice for his activities. His father remained a street fighter, and he was raised together with his brother though his brother’s name remains unknown. When he was only in primary school, his father was sentenced to 6 years for robbery.

In his early days, he used to listen to E-40, who was later featured on his song “Calabasas.” Also, he grew up listening to Chingy, Boosie Badazz, Kevin Gates, and Kanye West. He studied at Lakewood High School, a Public Secondary School located in the Southern California city of Lakewood. In 2017, he graduated from Lakewood High School.

The 2019 song “Heart on Ice,” which went viral on YouTube and TikTok and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, helped Wave gain recognition. Ghetto Gospel, Wave’s debut album, peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard 200. The single “Rags2Riches” off his second album, Pray 4 Love, reached number 12 on the Hot 100 and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200. His third album, SoulFly, became his first to reach number one on the Billboard 200 upon its release.

With the release of his mixtape Hunger Games Vol.1, Wave’s career got underway in 2016. Before joining Alamo Records, he independently released several mixtapes. He released his mixtape PTSD on June 14, 2019, featuring the song “Heart on Ice.” The song gained enormous popularity on TikTok and YouTube and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ghetto Gospel, Wave’s debut album, was made available on November 1, 2019. On the US Billboard 200, it peaked at position 10.

Pray 4 Love, Wave’s follow-up album was made available on April 3, 2020. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. On August 7 a deluxe version was released. The song “Rags2Riches,” which peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100 and became his highest-charting song, was one of many from the album to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

On March 6, 2021, he unveiled the track listing for his album SoulFly and went on to drop it on March 26 and features Polo G only once, on the song “Richer.” The songs “Street Runner” and “Tombstone,” which reached number 11 on the Hot 100, are also included on the album. Wave caused significant controversy in late 2021 when he released the song “Nirvana,” which many believed to be a suicide message but which he vehemently rejected.
