The upcoming ceremony will feature live performances from several 2023 nominees, such as Ice Spice, the rapper behind “Princess Diana,” and Latto, the creator of the hit song “Big Energy.” Additionally, the event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with performances by respected artists like D-Nice, Jeezy, and YG. Rhymes, who has previously won six BET Awards, will receive his seventh honor after a 12-year hiatus. In 2011, he won four awards for his song “Look at Me Now,” which was certified octuple-platinum and featured Chris Brown and Lil’ Wayne.

In 2006, Rhymes won two BET Awards, both solo wins. He received the Best Live Performance and the Move the Crowd Award, which is highly regarded. He has joined an esteemed group of Black performers who have made history, including Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Prince, and Lionel Richie, past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The title was awarded to Sean “Diddy” Combs last year.

Rhymes has consistently released new music, even after the recent launch of his EP “The Fuse Is Lit” in November. He delayed the release of the EP as a sign of respect for the late Takeoff, the Migos member who passed away last year.

Rhymes has dedicated time to focus on his well-being and shared his weight loss journey in a recent Men’s Health interview. He said, “I didn’t just do this for my music career; it’s about caring for my family and community. It’s who I am.”
