2Baba Writes A Touching Tribute To The Late Sound Sultan And Reflects On Their Joint Musical Journey
Two years after the death of his late friend and colleague Sound Sultan, Nigerian music sensation Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba, has not stopped paying tribute to his memory. On Sunday, January 14, 2023, 2baba posted a heartfelt homage to Sound Sultan on Instagram, recalling incidents that shaped his life throughout his career.
While their common ambition of African and Nigerian music becoming successful and widely recognized has come true, 2baba made it clear in the poignant post that he won’t be easily won over by the “new cats” in the industry. 2baba declared at the start of the New Year that he would like to tell Sound Sultan a lot more tales.
The post identifies as a tribute to Sound Sultan, who lost his fight against “Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma,” a type of cancer of the throat, on July 11, 2021. The 2Baba recently discussed how difficult it was to find the right words to remember the late artist when he was speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesola.
When asked about the impact of losing his close friend, he fell silent for a brief while, clearly upset. Following the Sound Sultan’s passing, 2Baba said it took him a while to come to terms with his absence. He said that when he first heard the tragic news, he assumed it was a prank, describing his shock at the moment.
