Blaqbonez Exposes The Dark Side Of Music Charts

The Rise of Streaming Farms in Nigeria

Rapper Blaqbonez has spoken out once more on how some musicians may stay in the top 20 without having their music heard. In an interview with Cool FM 96.9, Chocolate City rapper Blaqbonez discussed how anonymous musicians are holding onto a top 20 spot without having fans or listeners who genuinely push these songs organically up the charts.

Following the successful release of his hit song Ice Spice, the rapper is currently on a media tour. He stated that several musicians who consistently rank between 10th and 20th on Nigeria’s Apple Music Top Songs chart do so with the assistance of stream farms.

Following the conversation between musicians BNXN fka Buju and Ruger, conversations about streaming farms took over social media trends in 2022. The emergence of this dishonest practice, which is widespread around the world but was previously believed to be absent in Nigeria, has artists and music lovers worried.

Using streaming farms, labels and artists can fraudulently inflate the number of streams they receive on sites like Spotify and Apple Music. These practices confuse audiences and give certain musicians a false sense of popularity.

Because of this, musicians with little actual listenership can reach the top 20, overshadowing more deserving performers who have genuinely earned their following.
