BTS Fans’ Screams Allegedly Cause Panic And Evacuation On A Seoul Subway

According to reports, South Korean police have confirmed that a recent disturbance on a Seoul subway train was brought on by passengers screaming while watching a livestream by BTS’s Suga.

Passengers aboard the Seoul Subway Line 9 express train to Gimpo airport reported many incidents to the South Korean police yesterday evening (August 6). According to Yonhap News, this included over 20 claims of alleged injuries, a riot, and a weird odor aboard the train, which prompted a police and fire department inquiry.

At least seven passengers reportedly suffered “cuts and bruises” during the evacuation when scared passengers rushed out of the train as it pulled into Sinnonhyeon station, according to SBS News. Both the absence of a gas leak and the absence of a train riot were confirmed by police and fire officials who arrived on the spot.

Following the incident, witnesses who claimed to have seen it said on social media that the train’s occupants reportedly panicked when shouting fans from BTS’s Suga concert earlier that evening started to be heard while watching the idol on a livestream following the performance.

According to SBS News, Daily News, and several other media outlets, Seoul police have subsequently apparently confirmed that “the incident occurred when foreigners watching a BTS video in the train screamed”. Big Hit Music, the record company that represents BTS, has not yet commented on the event.
