Burna Boy Speaks On Being Labelled A “New Cat” In The Music Industry

Despite releasing his debut album ten years ago and being in the scenes for over a decade, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, claims he is not bothered by the perception that he is a newcomer to the music business. Remember how Davido stirred up controversy last month by including Burna Boy with Rema, Asake, Fireboy DML, and others as “new cats”?

Burna Boy confidently asserts that he is unperturbed by being categorized as a “new cat” in the music industry, as his extensive experience and accolades speak for themselves. With a decade-long career and a Grammy win, Burna Boy’s artistic journey has solidified his position as a seasoned and influential figure in the global music scene.

The DMW boss came under fire from many for underrating Burna Boy. On the other hand, Burna Boy recently told Apple Music’s Ebro that it’s good that some people think he’s new to the business because it makes him feel young and motivated to do more. He stated:

“It is a good thing that people think my movement is new. I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span.

“I’m living longer than I thought I would than I even planned to, you know.”

The Singer, whose song “Last Last” was a viral hit, was always confident in his abilities. Burna Boy continued by saying that he performs all genres of music in an effort to “try to make the world understand that music is bigger than a genre. I feel blessed that I can do different genres. It would have been a waste if I had restricted myself to a genre.”
