Stonebwoy Doesn’t Accept Davido’s Comment On Burna Boy Being A “New Cat”

Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy has criticized Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido for saying that Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy is a “new cat” in the music business. Contrary to Davido’s assertion, Burna Boy is a legendary musician, the ‘Activate’ crooner asserted. In a recent interview with GoldMyne TV, Stonebwoy made this claim.

The “new cat” subject has been an ongoing concern for Afrobeats musicians lately. In a recent interview that went viral on social media, Davido said that he and Wizkid were among the first Nigerian musicians to break into the international music scene and introduce the country’s music to a wider audience.

He continued by calling several emerging artists, including Burna Boy and Rema, as well as Mayorkun, Fireboy, and Asake, “new cats” who are introducing Afrobeats to a global audience. The classification stating that 2018 and ‘YE’ are the beginning of Burna Boy’s popularity has since sparked a wave of responses on social media.

People who disagreed pointed to Burna Boy’s early popularity with his smash single “Like To Party” from 2012 as proof that he cannot be categorized as a new cat. However, another category of people believe there might be an underlying issue between both artists, because everyone knows Burna has been around for a long time, so tagging him a “new cat” seems on purpose.
