Don Jazzy Explains Why Wizkid And Davido Were Not Signed To Mavins

Don Jazzy, the CEO of Mavin Records, has explained why he passed on signing some of the biggest stars in Nigerian music while they were still up-and-coming performers. The music entrepreneur claimed that Banky W of EME Records beat him to the signing of Wizkid to his now-defunct record company, Mo’Hits, in an interview on the Leaderboard podcast presented by Fisayo Fosudo.

Don Jazzy also acknowledged that he had the option of signing Davido but decided against doing so since he thought the renowned musician would be successful without the assistance of a record label. The Mavin Records head expressed remorse for not signing Simi and Teni as well as Wizkid and Davido, praising their remarkable talents.

Don Baba J also revealed that he was close to signing rapper Falz to his label, but the deal fell through. Don Jazzy is one music boss who takes his role in the music industry seriously just as much as he values his artists. Over three weeks ago, Jazzy had described a specific incident from a recent trip to Paris, where he encountered a lovely white woman and was ready to approach her.

Don Jazzy claims that when the lady asked him why he was in Paris, he replied that he had come to manage his ‘investments,’ referring to Rema’s sold-out show.
