Elton John Marks 50 Years Of His 8th Studio Album, “Caribou”

In honor of the 50th anniversary of his eighth studio album Caribou, English music icon, Elton John is showcasing exclusive video from his very first live performance of the cherished song “The Bitch Is Back.”

Performing the song two months before its Caribou release, the rock star is seen in the amazing video performing live on May 5, 1974, in front of over 40,000 spectators at his renowned Watford FC Benefit Concert at Vicarage Road. The song would become the second single from the album, peaking at No. 4 in the US and No. 15 on the UK charts.

Elton, who had recently been named a director of Watford Football team, organized the benefit performance with guests including Rod Stewart and Nazareth, with tickets starting at £1 in order to help the team financially. The video is a unique find because the concert was not recorded for official release.

This exclusive video has been re-released right before Record Store Day on April 20, when UMe will be releasing a limited-edition 50th anniversary version of Caribou. Limited to 180 copies, the reissue will be available as a 2-LP set on sky blue 180-gram vinyl.
