Funke Akindele Appears On “Toke Moments”; Talks Consistency, Takes Fans On Journey From ‘I Need To Know’ To ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ & Others

Funke Akindele, nicknamed Jenifa, is Toke Makinwa’s guest on the latest episode of her podcast “Toke Moments,” which she hosts weekly. In this episode, Funke Akindele takes fans back to the eras of “I Need To Know” and “Jenifa’s Diary” as she discusses how consistency has shaped who she is today.

From 1998 until 2002, Akindele appeared in the sitcom ‘I Need to Know.’ Her breakthrough performance in ‘Jenifa’ earned her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009. In a 2015 television series adaption called ‘Jenifa’s Diary,’ Akindele reprises the part for which she won the 2016 and 2017 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy. Akindele has received the Best Actress in a Comedy award five times, most recently in 2020 and 2022. Akindele has received the most AMVCA nominations for actresses and filmmakers, and she presently holds the record for most victories with six. She received Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran’s nomination as his running mate for Lagos state governor in 2022 from the People’s Democratic Party. According to reports, her film Battle on Buka Street has surpassed Omo Ghetto: The Saga, which held the record for two years, as the highest-grossing movie in Nigeria. She is the second director in Nigerian box office history to earn more than one billion naira.
