Funke Akindele Biography
Funke Akindele is a Nigerian actress and film producer and one of the most popular in the field. She started acting as early as 1998 and has risen to the top of her career.
She is known simply as Jenifa – a reference to the flick of the same title she created.
While acting is her calling and she has made good money from the profession, she has temporarily ditched acting to focus on her political ambitions, having been picked as the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for Lagos state.
She was recently attacked alongside her team members while campaigning in one of the markets in Lagos. The incident made headlines in Nigeria, but the ruling APC denied a hand in it all.
She is a trained lawyer. She had to take up legal studies because her father always wanted her to read law. That notwithstanding, she is more famous as an actress.
Since the actress is no longer with her husband Bello, it might be said that her family consists of herself and her twin boys, Zack and Zion, with whom she is madly in love and devoted.
Funke Akindele has been married twice. Her first marriage (to Kayodo Oloyede) was also her shortest, lasting for about a year.
Her second marriage (to Abdul Rasheed Bello) lasted longer and led to the birth of her twins Zack and Zion – her biggest blessings to date.
Funke Akindele is a mother of twins – Zack and Zion. The kids might be likened to miracles because many had given up on the possibility of Funke ever bearing children. But as the say goes, “God did,” and she gave birth to two miracle babies.
It is the wish of many to always have their parents with them. But of course, most times, death has other ideas. Funke Akindele lost her father, a retired school principal, in 2019. However, her mother is still alive
Funke Akindele’s father is no other than Mr. Olusoji Akindele, a native of Ogun state and a one-time teacher and school principal. He exited the material plane in 2019.
Funke Akindele’s mother is a medical doctor and the only surviving Nollywood star’s parent. The actress is known to have a close relationship with her mother and has even shared pictures of them online several times.
There is sometimes confusion about the number of siblings the actress has. While some sources claim she has three siblings, others put it at just two. At least we can say that she has a sister named Abimbola Maria Akindele and a film editor brother named Poga Akindele. Funke appears to be the most famous in the family, though.
Funke Akindele has a sister in Abimbola Maria Akindele, who holds a master’s degree from Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
The celebrated actress has only one brother. Poga Akindele is also in the Nollywood space, but it appears he is not as famous as his sister Funke. Either way, he is having the time of his life as a Nollywoodian.
Funke Akindele is known for her love of the good life, and she has worked hard enough to afford it as she pleases; she rolls in Nigeria’s high society circles in some of the choicest cars money can buy. And given the opulence of her lifestyle, many young people often look up to her as a role model.
By Nigerian standards, Funke Akindele is doing pretty well, with a personal fortune of about $7.6 million, which translates to hundreds of millions in naira. Even by African standards, it is an impressive sum.
Houses, like cars, for most celebs, are status symbols. They are acquired to project the image of opulence they want the public to witness. Funke Akindele might be counted among those whose abode projects their status. She has a mansion in Amen Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos state, Nigeria.
More likely than not, she also has houses in other locations.
For many celebs, cars are not just means of transport; they are acquired to show as a status symbol, which means they usually go for some of the choicest cars out there. Funke Akindel is no exception. She has exquisite taste in cars. However, while it has been claimed that she owns a Lamborghini Aventador, we can’t confirm that.
However, she owns other cars, including a Toyota Prado SUV and a Lexus LX 570 SUV. She probably owns other cars which the public is unaware of
Funke Akindele might be counted among the oldies in the trenches of Nigerian film, and that’s because she has been in the film industry for decades and has featured in many movies.
Among the movies she is known to have featured in are Aja, Ojo Ketala, Akorede, Maami, Aje Meta 1 and 2, Asiri Nla, Apaadi 1 and 2, Koosefowora, Iro Funfun, Taiwo Taiwo, Omo Ghetto, Agabara ife, and Agbefo.
Others are Iro funfun, Awa Obinrin, A trip to Jamaica, Pretty Liars, The Hero Girls n Fire, Sheri Koko, Monica the Fighter, and Jenifa 1& 2. Of course, the list is by no means comprehensive. But it gives clues about her acting and versatility.
Funke Akindele is most famous and most loved as an actress but recently got involved in mainstream politics when she was picked as a deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
She was picked because of her popularity and the belief that it would sway voters and translate to victory for the opposition PDP. If that will eventually happen remains to be seen.
Following her unveiling in her hometown of Ikorodu, she formally announced that she would be suspending her acting career for politics in 2023. She has done just that.
