Grammy-winning Producer Telz Shares his Grass-To-Grace Story In Podcast; Recalls How He Didn’t Have ₦150 For Keke Napep
Telz is widely recognized as a music producer specializing in Afrobeats. He has established himself as a Grammy winner through collaborations with renowned artists such as Burna Boy and Patoranking. Recently, Telz reflected on the obstacles he encountered during his earlier years in the industry.
During a recent interview with the Viz & Banks Podcast, the producer Telz opened up about his early challenges in the music industry. He revealed that five years ago, he couldn’t even afford ₦150 to take a Keke Napep for transportation between different parts of Lagos. As Telz looks back on the difficulties he faced in the past, he has come to the realization that he would have never believed it if someone had told him five years ago that he would be making as much as $5,000 per month. How much can change in just a few short years is truly amazing.
During the podcast, Telz mentioned that he had to switch apartments and was without a home because he wanted to network and meet people. Telz recounted that the first artist who helped him on his journey was Nigerian musician Pretty Boy DO, and he will always feel indebted to him no matter how successful he becomes.
Telz, like many others in the music industry, faced a challenging start to his career. However, he can now reflect on those struggles more positively. Despite his humble beginnings, Telz has achieved great success, including winning a Grammy for his contributions to Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’. This album was awarded the 2020 Grammy for the World Album category.
