Kevin Abstract Unveils “Blanket,” A Reflective New Album

Exploring Personal Roots and Indie Influences, the Artist Returns with a Solo Venture

Kevin Abstract has launched his third solo album, “Blanket,” under Video Store and RCA Records. The album, which was developed over a three-month period in early 2023, marks Abstract’s first individual project since his 2019 release and the disbandment of BROCKHAMPTON.

Comprising 13 tracks, “Blanket” provides a deep dive into Abstract’s personal evolution and the introspective period following a significant career transition. The album’s sound is a departure from his previous work, drawing inspiration from indie rock icons like Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, and Modest Mouse, while preserving the raw, confessional lyricism that has been a hallmark of his music.Kevin Abstract Unveils &Quot;Blanket,&Quot; A Reflective New Album, Yours Truly, News, April 24, 2024

The album’s production roster includes Romil Hemnani, Jonah Abraham, Tyler Johnson, Kid Harpoon, John Carroll Kirby, and newcomer Julian Ali, with additional artistic contributions from Kara Jackson, MJ Lenderman, Pilot, and Roy Blair. The recording took place in the studios of Sam i, brother of Spike Jonze, and Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La in Malibu. Here, Abstract revisited the nostalgia of childhood, recalling the enchantment of early experiences and the boundless potential of youth.

Abstract’s journey from feeling out of place among affluent peers in the South to embracing a diverse array of musical influences, including indie rock and hip-hop, is evident in his work. His previous albums, including the debut “MTV1987” and the poignant “American Boyfriend,” have explored themes of identity and love. “ARIZONA BABY,” his last album, touched on personal growth and vulnerability.

With “Blanket,” Abstract continues to explore the themes of love and truth that have consistently permeated his music, inviting listeners to experience his latest artistic exploration.
