In a recent series of social media posts, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo has expressed her frustration and distress over the constant body-shaming comments she receives online. The singer, known for her body positivity and self-love messages, has even hinted at the possibility of quitting her music career due to the incessant online abuse.
Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has been a target of fatphobic comments and online bullying, often masked as concern for her health. A recent tweet by YouTuber Layah Heilpern, which included a video of Lizzo’s tribute to Tina Turner and a derogatory comment about her weight, sparked Lizzo’s response. The singer stated that she sees comments about her weight on a daily basis, despite not searching for her own name. “It’s really starting to make me hate the world,” she said.
The singer has been vocal about her efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle, stating that she has stopped eating fast food years ago and regularly works out. However, she emphasized that her body size is not a part of her brand, but simply how she looks. “I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy,” she said.
