Nathaniel Bassey Involves The Police In New Defamation Allegation Over Mercy Chinwo’s Child

Nigerian gospel music singer, Nathaniel Bassey, has filed a lawsuit in response to claims of defamation that have been making the rounds on social media.

The renowned musician, who is recognized for his inspirational tunes and spiritual lyrics, has formally petitioned Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun via his attorneys at the Fortress Link Law firm. The dispute started when Mercy Chinwo, a fellow gospel performer, and her husband revealed their newborn kid at the Easter celebrations.

Social media was used by fans to discuss the child’s likeness to Nathaniel Bassey, with some inferring that the two were identical. In reaction to these allegations, Bassey’s attorneys named four people they claimed were in charge of spreading the accusations.

The baseless charges were allegedly disseminated online by the accused parties, who go by the names Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and Dj Spoiltkid, leading to the widespread misconception.

Speaking to the media, Bassey’s attorneys stressed the gravity of the situation, saying that the accusations went beyond conjecture and legally qualified as defamation. They emphasized that the bogus claims and Bassey’s picture were included together as proof of malevolent intent.

In their police appeal, the legal team demanded prompt action to look into the allegations and bring charges against the defendants in line with the law. They emphasized how the accusations would affect Bassey’s standing as a revered gospel musician whose music has impacted innumerable people all over the world.
