Following the world premiere of the new film “Barbie” in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nicki Minaj briefly “switched” careers to engage in film criticism on Monday. The 40-year-old rapper of “Do We Have a Problem?” stood next to Barbie actress Margot Robbie on the pink carpet and even tweeted a video of them posing together.
Before reviewing the movie, Minaj stated online that the actress was “strikingly gorgeous in person.” The tweet from Minaj read,
“Btw, the entire cast of this movie nailed it,” “The film is so visually stimulating. The actors can actually act, & the comedic timing is actually on time. Bravo. I’ll see it again & give my final analysis around the 21st. Will Ferrell, I 💖 U.”

The soundtrack for Barbie features Dua Lipa’s single “Dance the Night” and features Minaj as well. “Barbie World,” a song that Minaj co-wrote with Ice Spice and which samples Aqua’s hit single “Barbie Girl” from 1997, is her contribution to the album. Minaj tweeted on Monday,
“Thx, Forbes & s/o all the incredibly talented artists/producers on the #BarbieMovie soundtrack. Mark Ronson, Kev Weaver, Greta Gerwig, Mattel… you guys could have chosen anyone to be a part of this project,” Glad you knew how much it would mean to the barbz & me. So Grateful.”
The album also features Haim, Dominic Fike, Sam Smith, Lizzo, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Charli XCX, and Khalid. The soundtrack’s “I’m Just Ken” song was sung by Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken opposite Robbie’s Barbie. With the assistance of stylist Andrew Mukamal, Robbie attended events in outfits that were modelled after actual Barbie dolls in the run-up to the movie’s release. Even though most of these outfits have been pink, she paid homage to the Solo in the Spotlight Barbie on Sunday by donning a stunning black sequined Schiaparelli gown.
“We’re finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We’re hoping to get them excited,” “We’re pairing Barbie references with great designers.” “Well, it’s not subtle, but it’s very fun!”
Greta Gerwig, who wrote Barbie with Noah Baumbach, also served as the film’s director. Alongside Robbie, 33, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, and Lipa, 27, all portray various iterations of Barbie. As various Kens, Gosling, 42, is joined by Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena. On July 21, Barbie opens in theatres.
