Nigeria’s Apple Music Up Next Program Reveals Pawzz As Featured Artist

Apple Music has announced Nigerian Afrofusion artist Pawzz as the latest featured artist in its Up Next artist development program in Nigeria. Pawzz, whose real name is David Tokuma Dekor, was born and raised in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria and has been working with label and distribution services provider Freeme Music to fully explore his artistic capabilities. His first EP, “Prezz Play,” which blends Afrobeats, Afropop, Alté, R&B, and Amapiano, was released in 2023 and is streamable on Apple Music. The upbeat Afrobeats track “Koma” serves as the album’s centerpiece.

As part of the Up Next program, Pawzz will be included on Apple Music’s Nigeria’s Up Next playlist, which features carefully selected new and upcoming artists chosen by Apple Music editors from around the world. The genre-neutral playlist features a collection of musicians that the global editors are keen to introduce to a broader audience.

Being chosen as an Apple Music Up Next artist is an enormous honor for Pawzz, who says, “It’s a real honour for me, a young kid from Nigeria’s middle-belt, to be selected as Apple Music’s Up Next artist. I can’t express how grateful I am to Apple Music for their love and support for my music. It just brings so much validation to my journey, the years of sacrifice and striving to achieve my dreams. I couldn’t be happier or more ecstatic about this.”

Pawzz’s goal is to use his music to positively influence young people by encouraging them to accept their true selves. He joins an expanding roster of Up Next artists from Nigeria, Ajebo Hustlers, Browny Pondis, Jaido P, Khaid, Majeeed, Ninety, Novemba, Ogranya, SGaWD, T.I Blaze, Wavy The Creator, and Young Jonn..
