Rema’s “Calm Down” Is Included On Spotify’s Global Songs Of Summer 2023 Playlist

Since its release in February 2022, ‘Calm Down’ has gone on to reach great global success, making it Afrobeats’ biggest foreign export. On August 23, 2023, Spotify revealed their Song of Summer list for US and global listeners, and Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ made the global list.

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ starring Selena Gomez was voted 20th on the global song of the summer list, which was topped by ‘Ella Baila Sola’ by Latino musicians Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma. The global list also includes tracks by British pop singer Harry Styles, American superstar Miley Cyrus, Latino streaming giant Bad Bunny, and British Hip Hop artists Dave & Central Cee.

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ is the only African artist song on the list, and Rema is the only African artist to make the list.

Listeners and especially Rema fans would not be shocked to see ‘Calm Down’ on the list, given its phenomenal global success, which has seen it top charts in North Africa, the Middle East, and India. The single is also the highest charting song by a Nigerian on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Chart.

Additionally, earlier this month, Spotify identified Rema as the most exported Afrobeats musician and stated that by 2022, the platform’s earnings from Nigerian artists will total 11bn ($14m).
