Seun Kuti Proudly Admits That He Is A Traditional Worshipper

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has opened up about his nonconformist spiritual beliefs. He says he actively practices voodoo, also known as “juju,” rather than going to church.

The son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti talked about his family’s historical ties to Christianity in Nigeria, notably with the Anglican denomination, in an interview on the most recent episode of “Spill With Phyna” on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Remarkably, Kuti revealed that his family was instrumental in establishing the Anglican branch of Christianity in Nigeria. He pointed out that despite their close bond, his family has gradually moved away from Christianity.

The 41-year-old Kuti stated in the interview that he wished Africans would reconsider their spiritual beliefs. He freely admitted that he practices “juju” when questioned about his personal religious beliefs, providing us with an insight into his unique and unusual approach to spirituality.

This information adds an intriguing perspective to the public’s perception of the Grammy-nominated artist, who is well-known for both his music and his public statements on various social issues.

The musician recently asserted, in his characteristically straightforward way, that only the impoverished will go to heaven, claiming that people with bank accounts and savings won’t make it because they don’t think Jesus is coming “now” by setting money aside for the future.
