Shed Seven’s “A Matter Of Time” Makes UK Charts History

Shed Seven has triumphed with their first-ever official number-one album, “A Matter of Time.”. This British rock group, comprising Rick Witter, Paul Banks, Tom Gladwin, Tim Wills, and Rob Maxfield, now holds the longest gap between their debut and first number-one albums. With a career spanning three decades, the group earned this title after 29 years and three months between the first official album chart appearance of their 1994 debut “Change Giver” (16) and landing at number one with 2024’s “A Matter of Time.”

Shed Seven has previously enjoyed six top 40 albums in the UK, four of which went to the top 10 on the Official Albums Chart, including 1996’s “A Maximum High” (8), 1998’s “Let It Ride” (9), 1999’s “Going for Gold” (7), and 2017’s “Instant Pleasures” (8). It is worth noting that The Specials hold the overall record for the longest gap between their Official Album Chart debut and first number-one LP, with 39 years and three months between the eponymous 1979 release “The Specials” (4) and the 2019 chart-topper “Encore.”.

This week’s Official Record Store Chart also features “A Matter of Time” as the number one album. Shed Seven’s album sales through independent record stores in the UK accounted for more than half of the album’s total sales following a week of in-store signings and performances. Additionally, the group debuted at the top of the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, selling the most copies of any release this week on the medium. As Noah Kahan achieves a career-best with his third studio album Stick Season, lifting one (4), Lewis Capaldi’s Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which peaked at number one on the Official Albums Chart last week, continues to remain strong in the Top 5 (2).

Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Shed Seven says:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with A Matter of Time.

“It’s also our 30th anniversary. What better way to start proceedings? We’re just getting started! Thanks to everyone for their support over the years, and especially for buying this record.

“It’s much appreciated – we shall see you on the road!”
