Elon Musk, the owner of X (previously known as Twitter), has restored the account of renowned American singer and fashion designer Kanye Omari West, also known as Kanye West or Ye. Kanye West’s account was restored after being temporarily suspended due to controversial tweets in 2022. Elon Musk’s decision to reinstate the account has sparked discussions about the role of social media platforms in regulating free speech.
As per the recent update shared with the Wall Street Journal, the singer’s account will no longer be permitted to generate revenue. Moreover, advertisements will not be displayed alongside his posts. It is worth mentioning that the account in question bears a golden verification tick, which signifies that it is an official business account recognized by X. Currently, Ye’s account boasts a massive following of 31.5 million users.
As per the platform’s regulations, the rapper’s account was suspended in December 2022 due to his violation of the guidelines by making several anti-semitic remarks that encouraged violence. The suspension came after numerous complaints were filed against the rapper’s offensive comments, which sparked outrage among users and advocacy groups. The platform took swift action to enforce its policies and maintain a safe and inclusive user environment.
It is uncertain whether Kanye has appealed or if there was another reason for his account’s reactivation, as he has not posted any reason for his return on the platform yet. Still, it is expected that he has sorted out himself as regards his cynical postings.
