Born on February 21, 1984, Kenneth Okolie is a native of Ihiala in Anambra, located in southeast Nigeria and primarily inhabited by the Igbo ethnic group. Okolie has three siblings and is the firstborn of his parents. He was raised in Lagos.
He attended Stepping Stones and Learning Fields Primary Schools before continuing his secondary studies at St. Jude’s College. He allegedly continued his tertiary schooling at Igbenedion University and completed additional coursework in Ghana. He earned a B.Sc. in Marketing from Ghana’s Valley View University.

Okolie and co-star Nkiru Sylvanus were liberated from captivity on December 21, 2012, at 10:30 p.m., marking the sixth day since their kidnapping. Never was the sum paid in exchange for their release mentioned in the Nigerian media, and it was never known if a ransom was paid or not.
